OUCH!
Called Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, CA
981 Alden Lane Livermore, CA
925-447-0208
Sells 3.5 cu feet vermiculite course #3 for $39.99
But they sell compressed bale Peat moss 5.8 cu ft for $28.99
I will be talking to the person who sets the prices on Tuesday and see if I can talk him down the $39.99 since whole sale price of vermiculite for the same size is only $13.
Yes I have called the OSH and Lowe but they sell the tiny bags or the fine vermiculite.
I am not wasting gas on tiny bags of anything.
Evergreen Nursery in San Leandro sells the #2 grade of vermiculite by the way. Didn;t bother asking for price since it was the #2 grade.
I am about ready to buy a bunch once I can get my hands on some at a good price and sell it myself at this point. Sheesh....forget that maybe I;ll just go and mine some myself.

Re: OUCH!
Home Depot in San Ramon does carry 2 CF bags of vermiculite (in the inside garden area). However, they are 19.95.
By the way, I believe the bags at Alden Lane Nursery are 3.5 CF. If you have a membership card for a garden club, you can get an additional 10% off or if you are a senior age 65+ (or know one you can have shop for you) you can get 10% off every Wednesday. Using either of those discounts (can't combine) that brings the price down to 35.95 for 3.5 SF or 10.27 per CF.
They also have a program where once you spend $500, they send you a $25 gift certificate. Yes it sounds like a lot of money but I just got my gift card in the mail last week.
Hope this helps clarify.
P.S. I did get my vermiculite there. I purchased my Peat Moss at Lowe's.

Thanks Shoda
Thanks Shoda for your clarification. I spoke to Greg Zollers there who sets the pricing and does the ordering at Alden Lane.
Anyways yes Home Depot sells the smaller bags of vermiculite but with 9 people in the family and each having their own box. There is no way I am going to get the smaller bags.
This is going to be a BIG PRODUCTION.
What has been the largest family using Square foot garden?
