Grubs, Grubs, Grubs!!!!! Empty Grubs, Grubs, Grubs!!!!!

Post  MsMinchin 5/25/2010, 1:44 am

So last year my garden was brand new and pest-free. This year it is another story and every bug under the sun has moved in. Worst of these are the grubs that have eaten the roots of all but two carrots, and most of the leeks I planted. At first I thought these were supposed to be good bugs for the garden, so I would put back any I disturbed. Now that I realize they are eating my babies, I have started digging them out. I pulled around 30 out of 2 squares yesterday.

Has anyone tried adding beneficial nematodes to fight grubs? Any other tips?
Thanks! out of all my early spring plantings I have practically nothing to show for it. (on the bright side I transplanted out all my peppers and tomatoes yesterday)

Did you pull the grubs out of the tomato and pepeer squares? Grubs, Grubs, Grubs!!!!! Icon_eek I assume so.

No idea about beneficial nematodes. But if the directions say they kill grubs, I would certainly give it a try.

awesome article! This makes sense - we built our garden beds on a sunny patch of lawn and grubs love to eat grass roots. I think I'll have to try the nematode route. This may also explain why the yellow jackets love my garden so much.
