Garlic Chives in SFG?
I received a package of Garlic Chives seeds, aka Chinese Chives, as a gift with a seed order, and considering starting some of them for planting this spring. According to the package they are perennial, and a google search shows that they tend to be invasive unless the blooms are deadheaded to prevent the seeds from dropping. Though one article suggested putting the blooms in salads.
Anyone growing Garlic Chives? Would it be wise to plant them in a corner of a raised bed with other herbs, or are they better planted in-ground where they could spread? Is the garlic flavor of the chives strong enough to use in cooking?

garlic chives
Up here in south central MA garlic chives are quite enthusiastic in it's growth habit. Because of it's habit of spreading if allowed to flower I tend to give it a weekly haircut to prevent flowering. I regularly use it in omlets for the mild garlic flavor. In fall I dig a clump and allow it to become chilled not frosted and bring it in to continue the haircutting procedure for winter.

Re: Garlic Chives in SFG?
I always grow chives in my sfg, they grow extremely well, have some garlic chives growing at the momment (we are in summer here)
When they start seeding just cut those bits off, have not had any random pop up chives appear yet in other areas of the grow beds

Re: Garlic Chives in SFG?
They have a distinct garlic flavour raw, so things like a fresh made dip etc they are great for, when you cook them the garlic flavour is lost pretty quick, so they are an end of cooking process throw in.
Here is two sets, one you can see i allowed to go to seed and have cut the seeds away for growing next year, the other one is being used as needed, about 4 weeks between these ones
This has been trimmed of seeds, letting it die back before pulling from the bed, bit too coarse now to be eaten
Eat as needed, super tasty straight freshly picked

That is good to know. I was curious as to how much flavoring they provided, such as if they are added to scrambled eggs, instant pot meals, etc.
