Question on bamboo for bean stakes
I may need to supplement my planned pole bean trellis system with bamboo stakes. Do beans have trouble latching on to bamboo stakes/teepees?
I have had only one experience in the past with bamboo, it was a tomato teepee and I had to wrap it round and round with twine as the tomato (indeterminate) seemed unable to grab the bamboo itself, just lean on it. Will pole beans have the same problem? Would it help if I roughed up the bamboo with a rasp?

Re: Question on bamboo for bean stakes
Pole beans are naturals when it comes to vining and wrapping and clinging.
Re: Question on bamboo for bean stakes
oh no, beans will have NO problem. tomatoes are "vines" but done have grabbers like beans, peas, etc.
Re: Question on bamboo for bean stakes
Okay, that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
Re: Question on bamboo for bean stakes
I actually planted my beans in front of my bamboo patch. My beans will be growing up live bamboo this year - should be fun

Re: Question on bamboo for bean stakes
That will be VERY interesting! Can the beans grow fast enough not to shred themselves on the quick-growing bamboo? Will we hear about dmpower buying a ladder to harvest beans when the bamboo carries them skyward?? News at eleven!! ;-)
