I really do not want plants with strong bones and teeth.Scorpio Rising wrote:- - -
If you use the search bar in the upper left corner, you can check it out! Plus it’s harmless to beneficials. And builds strong bones and teeth, lol!

germination
Putting in a fall garden is wonderful! It is possible to know what your germination rate is before planting your seed. Take you seed, spread it out on a damp paper towel and then roll up the paper towel. Sometimes to keep it damp it is necessary to put the paper towel in a ziplock bag. Check the paper towel for seed sprouting about the time you would expect a certain variety of seed to sprout and count the number of sprouts.

Hi Reiyos. I see you joined a LONG time ago, but have finally decided to officially join our party! Can you introduce yourself & tell us about your garden?
Gardening in San Diego County
It's a great place to garden, Mark, as we get to do it all year round.
If you haven't discovered it yet, City Farmers in City Heights is the BEST source of organic top soil and compost, which they mix themselves. It's a family-owned business and always a great help with native plants as well as gardening and trees.

Lol, no but I chipmunks as I grew up out in the woods and lakes. Now I live near Disneyland.RJARPCGP wrote:The woods? Like a section I know too well in Claremont, New Hampshire, where their Walmart is!sanderson wrote:No_Such_Reality wrote:. . . Since I'm near the house of the mouse . . .![]()
Just by opening a vehicle door, you can hear a chipmunk!![]()
But that area is known for deer mouse problems!
In broad daylight, during what was likely 2018, I saw a deer mouse running across the parking lot near our vehicle!
My lacinato kale from past fall is still in and still producing for picking off leaves for smoothies. Definitely looks Dr. Seussish.
When to pull is so hard here with limited space. If you don't mercilessly pull healthy producing plants on a schedule for planting, you easily yourself blocked out of your next growing season.
September and October are brutal. Tomatoes are a great example. You first crop starts early, transplants out as early as March. Winter tomatoes (I'll pause so East coast and Midwest folks csn pick themselves off the floor) need to go in August thru mid-September. So they hard question, what squares to take August to plant Tomatoes for Christmas?
