Gorgeous! I tried to get a honeybee but she showed me her butt so I'm back to the camera for something else.Scorpio Rising wrote:https://i.servimg.com/u/f11/19/25/77/83/img_0110.jpg

Shoot, I'll take ANY end of a pollinator at this point. I can count the bees I've seen on one hand.
First cuke...but not if the pollinators don't show up.

I found a False Colorado Potato beetle nibbling on my healthiest eggplant. These appear now and then, but aren't a pest to the degree (true) Colorado Potato beetles can be. It gave me a truly innocent look, so after photographing it, it got a free ride across the yard to some wild nightshade weed. I said "Here, eat this instead." but since beetles don't understand language, it may or may not stay put/out of the garden.

Okay, here's mine. The Mama plant came from the grocery store and started as a pineapple top about 4 years ago.

Here's Mama's baby picture.

Pollinators

We've been very lucky so far -- lots of bees. Here they are, taking over a hummingbird feeder.

What worries me is the butterflies. 2 years ago, we had hundreds of California Hairstreaks (little blue guys). Last year we only had about 6. This year, none.

Good. We have seen a few Pipevine Swallowtails, a Common Buckeye, an occasional Tiger Swallowtail, but that's all. No congregations. Everyone just passing through.Scorpio Rising wrote:CN, I have seen a Monarch or two up here, they look good. My milkweed is gangbusters!

Beetles, I see in your avatar that you've put some new clothes on your beetle friend. He looks WONDERFUL!

Yeah, I dressed him up just for the 4th of July. I switched him back again before seeing he had a fan! For those who missed the brief costume change:

I am getting a jump on the July Avatar with this recent sunset from our backyard. Or maybe I should use the rainbow from the same night but at the front of the house.

Beautiful! I know what I want for mine, too. There's a gorgeous big orange dragonfly that hangs around the pool. If I can get him to pose for me, I'll make him a celebrity!trolleydriver wrote:I am getting a jump on the July Avatar with this recent sunset from our backyard. I'm using my covered squash box as a reminder to all who are east of the Rockies that SVB will take you down if you aren't prepared!

Fireworks
Mine is a still shot from the video I took last night from the front deck of our new house. Hubby has never liked fireworks and I've always loved it, but most years I didn't get to see it. Now I should never have to miss it again.
The amazing part is that the view is so perfect from that spot. On our property next door, there was no clear visibility and on the other 2 side decks of the new place there were trees from our propery blocking the view. This is really exciting stuff for me. (Hubby thinks I'm nutz!
)
