Mr. B, it looks like some of the reds were okay. Or, are these the ones you have to toss?

The red ones are the keepers after I culled out the bad ones. I still have about 7 more hills of reds to dig and 7 hills of whites. I'm expecting them to do good, from what I'm seeing. I'll post pics when I dig them in a few days.

I just checked the local Master Gardener chart and it looks like I can plant potatoes again August 1. I'm hopping to use the smallest of this spring's harvest as seed potatoes. I have never had a Yukon Gold and I am in love.

I just checked and we have 159 threads about growing potatoes! That is a lot of interest in potatoes.

My Yukon golds were very small last year so I didn't plant any this year.

My potatoes are doing better this year than they have in a long time. I may have planted them too close and they could be just getting leggy. Onions doing good also.

Thanks YOLOS. They're Vidalias. I pulled a small one yesterday and ate it like an apple. SOooo sweet. I planted 159 of them. Cost over $14.00 for them but worth it.

I fear I may have planted my Potatoes too close. I thought they were growing really and healthy but now, I'm afraid they're just getting leggy from being too close. We'll see.

I have a potato question if anyone knows the answer.

This year I planted 3 Yukon Gold seed potatoes in a table top bed and was very happy with the results. I also planted one in a 5-gallon bucket that I have used for small reds for a few years. The second bucket had the usual reds.

The YG from the table top beds were smooth with delicate skins. Perfect. I let them cure and am still eating them, only washing as I prepare them. The YG from the bucket had rough textured skin and were very watery. Likewise the reds from the other bucket.

Does anyone know why the bucket potatoes had rough textured skins and watery meat?

I don't know the answer but if you give enough time, I can make something up and maybe even make it sound believable.   lol.

Nice haul, Mr Booker!

I have no idea what's going on there, sanderson.  I have not grown taters in grow bags...just the straight up SFG.  Not sure.
