Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
Just picked all of my German hardneck and Music garlic. Need to find places to cure them and keep them separate! I have never tried Music before, got it my default when Pinetree was out of my Georgian Fire.
Also picked my first green cabbage! Yum!

Yesterday, I pulled the last of my garlic. The bulbs were pretty puny this year. Next time, I'll rotate beds and add some phosphorus.

Picked the first Sweet Banana Peppers and Jalapeno Peppers today. Second picking of Sun Gold tomatoes - there are at least a hundred green tomatoes hanging on the two plants. There are some Golden Jubilee tomatoes about 3" in diameter, but it will be a while before they start ripening.

Just picked 3 cukes and my first ever straight neck summer squash, larger than probably I am supposed to let them get, but I literally went a few days and BAM! Foot long yellow squash! Can’t wait to taste it!

Cukes and summer squash, especially Zucchini, loves to do that to you! I can check the garden one evening, and find cukes or squash that are 2" or 3" long, and I think they'll be ready in a couple days. But, I walk out there the next afternoon and they are 8" long.

OG. I'll also be planting fall beets and carrots. I usually plant them in the spring but not this year. I guess beets are just about my favorite veggie. No one in my house eats my beets. ( Did I just say "eats my beets) My wife says they have an earthy flavor. I say, Yea. Thats why I LOVE them.OhioGardener wrote:Pulled a few more carrots & beets today. Soon that bed will be empty and will get re-planted with new beets and carrots for this fall's harvest.
When will you plant your Beets and Carrots? I'll follow your lead. Even if I get them in late, they'll be planted in my hoop houses and heavily mulched if it gets cold.

I love my beets! Most get eaten cooked for dinner, but some get pickled for winter salads. This evening we had Whole Roasted Beets. Did I mention that I love my beets?
I plant the fall crop of beet and carrots by early to mid-August, and they are ready for harvest by mid-October.

Actually, a deer picked my salad greens last night. Perhaps, however, the stumps will grow back.
I sprayed Bob-X near my roses and other tempting plants but neglected my SFG. Lesson learned!

Brussels in Summer
Brussels in Summer!
No, not my vacation plans, alas. A box of Brussels sprouts planted last October. They aren't all great quality, but most of them can be trimmed and used in stir fry.

More yellow squash yesterday, 4 cucumbers, and a mess of Dragon Tongue beans! I’m going to cook the beans and freeze the squashes. Will pickle the cukes this weekend. Oh and my first big tomatoes; yellow Brandywine! Excited to taste that!

Dug up my Yukon Gold potatoes last night after work, and a few of the carrots. Taters are waiting in the garage to go to the basement, need to find a suitable box then “fork” for missed tubers!
