Golden zucchini, eggplant, and a beet
Golden zucchini, eggplant, and a beet. The zucchini and eggplant then went into tonight's dinner.

Nice looking eggplant there, Mark. That would make a great Baked Eggplant Parmesan.

Tomatoes, bells, jalapenos, cayenne, pimento, Aswad eggplant, cucumbers. About the same on the wall counter.

I'm going to make plain tomato sauce and Annie's Salsa today.

WHoo Hoo. I remember when you could barely get a ripe tomato. Look at all those nice looking tomatoes. Congratulations.

Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
Oh my gosh, you remember that? I couldn't grow tomatoes and was an embarrassment to the rest of Californians who could all grow tomatoes.
This is my 9th year growing them. I'm even growing an Iraqi Basrawya heirloom from Baker Creek in one of the 2'x4' TT beds. All it took was a lot of tweaking, moving around, installing shade cloth, etc. Most of the smaller tomatoes are from 11 little heirloom Snow Fairy tomato plants, spaced at 1/sq ft with little 12" diameter tomato cages. I moved the heirloom indeterminates to the BTE strip. I'm limited in space for my sfg beds so I grow all of the other precious summer plants in those plus 5-gallong buckets, large pots and large storage totes.
Here are some of the 12 indeterminates in the BTE about a week ago. Notice the 2"x4" blocks holding the EMT vertically? That idea was from you!
Here are the Snow Fairies on June 3. After this photo, they suddenly started ripening to the point I have to give some to my neighbor.

Picked the first two Sweet Banana Peppers today. One of them got eaten between the garden and the house, and the other one survived to be sliced for the dinner salad.

Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
I checked my red potatoes a few days ago and found they were being attacked by ants so I had to dig all of the red potatoes. The white potatoes were fine. I don't get it. All of these small potatoes will go good in a pot of green beans or on my Blackstone griddle. IF my green beans ever come in.
QUESTION.... All of my Zucchini are dying on the vine when they get about 2 or 3 inches long. Is it blossom end rot, a watering problem, maybe not pollinated? I have 8 plants and they're doing the same thing. Some are in pots and some are in different raised beds. All were mulched with E-Z straw. Help.

Sorry to hear that Mr B! That is most often caused by lack of pollination. It can be caused by blossom-end rot, but since you have them in different beds and containers, I don't think that is likely. I had this same thing happen to me a couple years ago at the start of the season. When I checked the plants closely, I noticed that the plants had only female blossoms, and there were no male flowers. After a period of time the plants finally started having male blooms, and all was right with the world. I suspect it was weather related, but no proof of that.

I suspect it's pollination because I just checked my Cukes and they're doing the same thing. Full of blossoms but not one cucumber. I guess I'll leave the Zucchinis go for awhile and maybe they'll fix themselves. If not... Buh BYE Zukes.OhioGardener wrote:MrBooker wrote:QUESTION.... Re: What Have You Picked From Your Garden Today
Hand pollination, using a Q-tip or small brush, once the male flowers have appeared, can do the trick.
