Re: Senseless Banter...
Cashews are ripening in PI now. Going to visit a cashew farm next weekend. The family grows cashews, robusto coffee, 4 varieties of bananas and coconuts. The local palm civit also provides for civit cat coffee.
http://catpoopcoffeeinc.com/what-is-cat-poop-coffee-aka-kopi-luwak/
Mother and daughter have started a small business selling kopi luwak to the tourists. A 400 gram bag for 400 pesos( about 8.50) Small, easy to pack and doesn't break the bank to take a few back to friends and family.
Mangos are starting to bloom but I'll be gone before they can be picked. Same with the avocados,

I don't generally drink coffee, but the civit cat coffee doesn't leave the nasty aftertaste of regular coffee. Amazing. And adding cream makes it taste awful, as does white sugar. Raw brown sugar is the thing. Planning to bring some home with me.

I got knocked out of the running with the 21 to 30ish line:

Hope they get some SFGers in there. That would blow everyone away!

Re: Senseless Banter...
I sure wish my grandson and his girlfriend who live with me could get interested in this. We already have a start, but I can't get it together without help.
I even have some trees that need to be cut down for the permaculture and the yard is already covered in wood chips. What I didn't see was some money to get them started. Sorry to say, some cash outlay is going to be needed especially in yards like mine that are nothing but sand.

Re: Senseless Banter...
I know I would love to watch a real reality show like this and I am sure others would.
The big problem of course is money; would it bring in the advertisers and would they make a profit. Would it even attract enough viewers?

Re: Senseless Banter...
Well, I will give it a try and watch it. I'm afraid it will turn in to another staged or inept misadventure series. Remember the Prepper series? I quit watching because they chose such outlandish people, only a few real preppers that I could take seriously. Sure, food, water, sleeping bags, medicine, escape routes, self defense were mentioned, but you had to wade through the overkill and nuts. Also, if someone wanted to hunker down, why would one show where their bunker, abandoned missile site or caches are? Oh, well, I thought the series gave preppers a bad reputation.
I'm so ingrained in SFG that I'm afraid I will get upset at wasted space, fertilizers, disking, etc. I bet Monsanto or similar will be a sponsor. :-(
Okay, I'm done venting.

Don't you mean " Love to watch the adverts interspersed with a bit of OTT gardening hype " ?Kelejan wrote:I know I would love to watch a real reality show like this and I am sure others would.

I'm such a nerd, I'd rather see a reality TV show about day to day trials and tribulations of local start up CSAs in the different regions particularly those trying to supply meat.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Heck, I would be happy to just watch a show that deals with gardening (period).
I don't know why HGTV doesn't change their name to HTV. They used to have a show where they would redo the backyards, but I haven't seen it for quite some time.
I guess, I'm going to have to start watching more youtube

Re: Senseless Banter...
Heres a few British gardeners at work & play that I found extremely enjoyable .
Try putting " MONTY DON Gardens " into your search engine .
He did a series of reasonable programmes with the BBC on French & British style gardening .
Geoff Hamilton did TV series in which he carved out a massive four or five acre garden from scratch . The series was called the Barnsdale Garden . There are some youtube videos on it but I cant remember if he did the veg side of things for them .
Alan Tichmarch is also another decent gardener that had a reasonable progressive TV series .
Mind he used to do one of those " Turn up mob handed and we'll do a make over on your garden in the name of charity " series With a builder called Tommy Walsh and a very healthy fit vivacious red headed lass called Charlie Dimmock . Most guys I know had more than a passing interest in the Dimmocks
The best Brit gardener I can think of that was on TV regularly was a guy called Percy Thrower ( think late 1950 & the 1960's in black & white TV ) doing shows as a weekly ," What you should be doing now in the garden " series. I think there are BBC videos on line for them .

Re: Senseless Banter...
Growing a Greener World is a PBS series. VERY nice folks to work with as well. They gave me permission to use some of their info in my gardening classes.
You can download .pdf's and watch episodes on all sorts of gardening stuff. Includes Eliot Coleman in at least one episode.

I guess I would not give it much hope then? So many programs get overwhelmed by the adverts. :-(plantoid wrote:Don't you mean " Love to watch the adverts interspersed with a bit of OTT gardening hype " ?Kelejan wrote:I know I would love to watch a real reality show like this and I am sure others would.

Re: Senseless Banter...
I used to watch that show regularly when I lived in England. 1999-2002 Loved it and some of the other makeover and archeology shows well before HGTV got started. I've been dreaming of having a conservatory since those days.plantoid wrote:

Re: Senseless Banter...
We have it here on Saturdays at 7:30am. I always try to watch; some very interesting topics at time. Last Saturday was all about worms.sanderson wrote:GGW is on here at 8 AM Sundays. The videos look very interesting. Thanks for mentioning it Marie.
Re: Senseless Banter...
I found it on WUNJTV but not sure if that is the one I get on satellite or if I would be upa when the episodes air, but per their website:
"If you are not in the United States or do not find any stations near you airing us on television, don’t despair! You can still watch full episodes right here on our website"
http://www.growingagreenerworld.com/episodes/
I just quickly browsed the episodes and there is one about composting and worms...I mean with a cast like that, it has to be good
