Plan for the shadow!
Hi, everybody! I think i'm nerding out here...Here's a couple of online calculators to help you determine how far apart to space your SFG's based on the shadow from your north-sided SFG trellis, for a given location/month/day.
NOAA Solar Calculator: http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/solcalc/
Find the "solar noon" and "Az/El (in °)" values for your location, then input those numbers into:
Shadow Length Calculator http://www.wsanford.com/~wsanford/shadow_length.html
Or, you can use the tan function on a scientific calculator:
Trellis Height
(Az/El in °) (tan)
Happy Gardening!

Re: Plan for the shadow!
Huh.... Never seen that before... Interesting...
I'm in a good place - my garden is in the NW corner of our back yard. I have trellising on the west and north sides. I'm also planning to put it on the south side since there's nothing beyond that fence-line except my path to the rest of the back yard.
Thanks for that info!
