Hello from Northeastern IL.
Hi.
I'm Dennis and new to this forum this is my first time setting up a garden. I been working on it and reading everything I can find on raised bed gardens for the past 60 days. I'm getting as much done for spring 2015. I have so far found that this is away more than just digging a hole and dumping some seed in and filling it with dirt.

Hi, Dennis, Welcome to the Forum! I think this is a great site to learn about Square Foot Gardening, raised beds and gardening in general. Have you read All New Square Foot Gardening, 1st or 2nd Edition, by Mel Bartholomew? It is a great place to start. Feel free to ask questions or post photos of your project. We are here to help.

Hi Dennis! Welcome from Atlanta, GA.
You're right! It's LOTS more than digging a hole in the ground. That's one of the great things about SFG - No digging unless you really want to!!
Be sure to check out the archives on various topics. There's SO MUCH there to help you.
And Sanderson's correct - we like photos!

Welcome Dennis!
I think you'll find that though setting up raised beds can be a fussy process at first, once they're set up properly, especially with good Mel's Mix type soil in them, they're a lot less work in the future and overall the easiest way to go. Hacking at the dirt and turning it over by hand every year, the way one would in a regular row garden -- now THAT!!!!! is hard work!

Welcome aboard
Welcome to the forum Dennis! Like AtlantaMarie, I am also from the Atlanta area. I have learned a great deal here. Folks are very nice and always helpful. When I first started (which was just two springs ago), I new very little. Now I feel much more confident. I still have a lot to learn. It's like any worthwhile pursuit... you never stop learning new things!
Again, welcome and I wish you much success with your gardening endeavors.

Well this is where I'm at after 7 Months Everything is planted and growing. 90% of the plants in the garden I started from seed in my garage. Thanks to AtlantaMarie for donating all the wonderful seeds. Now I have read up on when to pick.

Hi Dennis! You are SO welcome! I'm glad the seeds have been good to you. I believe I also sent you leek seeds. Those came from Kelejan. (And, no, Kelejan, I haven't planted mine yet...)
Your garden space looks terrific, Dennis. Way to go!
