130F is satisfactory for killing weed seeds without killing the compost.Scorpio Rising wrote:jimmy cee wrote:
According to a section in the microbe book temperatures over 160 degrees burn off the carbon in compost piles.

leafy vegetables require nitrogen for good leaf development, but 'burning off' carbon won't increase the nitrogen content of the compost.

Now that I have a garden, I prefer to pick my own raw foods when I can.
The Berkeley 18-day hot compost is designed for fast batches of compost. I use it after it has rested and cooled down. https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t18500-compost-berkeley-18-day-hot-method?highlight=18+berkeley
