My Garden Flag
Last year when I set up my beds for sfg I found an old CB antenna in my basement.
I stuck it in one of the bed corners and there it has sat.
((( stuff is eventually usable ))) )))
Now I came up with what I consider a wonderful idea...
Using this antenna as a flag post to SFG
So I attempted to put together a flag dedicated to SFG..
I may somehow try to get this, or similar transferred to a material and hopefully have it proudly flying over my beds.
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated, I just put this together this morning

To many items would make it very gawdy ( in my opinion )

I'm only making this for my own use, in my garden, made from my computer, out of my head...LOL whats left of it.
Certainly not interested in going any further than that.

Hahaha! You KNOW how we like to copy ideas, Jimmy!
Re: My Garden Flag
I think turning that old CB antenna into a flag for your garden is a great idea! Do you or anyone you know sew? That would be a super easy pattern to sew together. Make your flag base out of green then sew on yellow strips in a grid pattern. Use an outdoor fabric: http://www.ehow.com/how_4810198_own-decorative-outdoor-flag.html.jimmy cee wrote:So I attempted to put together a flag dedicated to SFG..

For now you could just print it on paper and then laminate it. Not sure how long that would hold up outside it could get through the gardening season at least I bet.

Paint on a sheet works pretty good too.

I think you can still get inkjet iron on transfer sheets in A4 size sheets .. simply use your ink printer to print your design on the special sheet and then iron it on according to the instructions .
Just checked " Iron on inkjet A4 transfers " on our UK amazon , there are oodles & oodles for about £ 10 per 10 A4 sheets . USD conversion is about $15 for 10 sheets .
Here is the accompanying blurb from the first one I looked at ...
This high quality transfer paper (also known as Iron On / Fabric Paper) will enable you to print a block of text or an image directly on the paper using your own Inkjet printer to be transferred onto any light fabric such as T-Shirts, Cotton Bags and Even Baby Aprons. The A4 transfer paper is suitable for any Inkjet Printer including Brother, Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, Kodak and Lexmark. Each pack contains the number of sheets of your choice and our very own guide to t shirt transfer printing. Be unique and express your creativity with your own wearable art!

Re: My Garden Flag
Probably be a while with all thats going on here.
After having gorgeous seedlings planted, (warm weather crop). I think I may need to replace them all.
My lack of planting patience, messed up weather, all turned against me..soooooo
I'm off to the greenhouse to get some flats...maybe next year
soooooo much fun.......

Re: My Garden Flag
Oh jimmy! I feel for you.
I keep asking my savvy neighbour "Is it OK yet to plant my tomatoes?"
and she still says "Hold your horses until I say so", so for me yours is a lesson reinforced.
I think our official last-frost day is May 21 but there is still snow on the tops of the visible mountains around here and that is what the locals tell me, "Wait until the white is gone".
I am getting fed up with plants hanging around the place. This fall I am definately going in for some frost protection but I have so much on my plate right now. Except veggies.

Re: My Garden Flag
Y'know Kelejan I haven't used my dining room table for at least the past month so next year I swear I'm seeding things in flats at the very bare minimum of time. My tomato packets say to start indoors either 4-8 or 6-8 weeks before setting out. Next year I swear none of them are getting seeded till 4 weeks ahead of transplant time. Once they come off the flats and hit the dining room table with sunlight all that work to keep them short and compact under close lighting goes right out the window and they get leggy no matter how I try to hold back on water and draw the blinds on them. I put them outside in dappled light to harden off and the little stinkers get even greener and longer, yikes! No more - It's crazy!
Maybe next year Jimmy and I will start very late -- together!

Re: My Garden Flag
3 years ago I had to place our air conditioners in the windows. the 1st of May.
That was quite a season, this year I am still running our fireplace in the AM to warm up the house, however only for a warm up.
Yep I started much to early this season, only really started broccoli, and cold crops.
Then I said well why not try this, before you know it I had all my plants going and they were gorgeous.
Maybe next year I will have 2 setups for seedlings, one early and one late in case of extreme weather.
My cold frame is coming along very nicely, kohlrabi's are forming, broccoli heads should be along soon, swiss chard can be picked now, parsley and other herbs are being used now, just those dang hot weather plants...
Fun isn't it ?
oh ohhhh I better get back to my flag....LOL

Yep, all that fancy schmancy radar doppler long-range satellites high-price remote-sensing gizmos to tell us what the weather is going to be, and my arthritic knees are just as accurate!

One nice thing about tomatoes, at least, is that so much of this kind of thing can be made up for simply by burying the tomatoes deeper, turning lots of that leggy stalk into some nice root. I worry about it a lot more with things like lettuce and chard, which can already have very weak stalks on shallow roots.

Re: My Garden Flag
You're so right Marc with planting deeper. I got quite a shock at the nursery with their very dark green and amazingly compact short tomatoes. I'd love to do that at home. There must be a trick to this tomato stuff, this is only my 2nd yr. growing from seed.
Sorry Jimmy about the derailment, Now back to Jimmy's topic!

LLM, I went back over this thread to see who derailed it and it was jimmycee himself.
I just wanted to make sure it was not me, as I am rather inclined to wander off the subject matter. Just like real life conversation as opposed to debate.

Or like the yarn, braided "worm" my son made for me years ago. Hang it outside.
If it's dry, it's sunny.
If it's wet, it's raining.
If it's stiff, it's freezing.
If it's horizontal, it's windy.
