If she wants to spend the money, it is her call. She can thrive with six inches, but it is not 'bad' to have it deeper. At worst, it's wasteful. No biggie in my view.

What about a Table Top to protect from ants?  I use Baby Powder to kill and repel ants.  I just poof it out of the bottle sideways so it's not thick.  If you have a TT, you can set the 4 legs on pavers or bricks and poof the BP around the legs.  I use it to keep the ants from getting out on the hanging hummingbird feeder.  I swear by PB.
It was Quinault, but it's not one of the varieties that's known to do will in the tropical south like Sweet Charlie, Rosa Linda, Florida Belle, or Chandler. It's just odd that these are hard to find. I know I could mail order, but I prefer to support a local nursery if possible. I'm in no rush for strawberries anyway.

Thanks for the BP tip for ants.  Very Happy
