Help ID pest
They are on my pepper plants and I have to manually dispatch them. I'm sorry about the quality of the photos.

They can't right themselves.

Re: Help ID pest
An in-focus image showing the top view may help, but based on image #3 (yellow body with black highlights)...
1. Potato Beetle - my first guess
2. Pepper Weevil - possible but the color does not match; plus the snout is missing
3. Sugarcane Root Borer Weevil or Orange Root Weevil - yellow and possible pattern match; size and shape also are close match
If none of the above is your pest, maybe try an image search (pepper pest yellow beetle/weevil) for your bug.

Re: Help ID pest
Here's another photo of the pest. Under a loupe, I could see a short snout, and brown, barely visible stripes. I wish I had a super camera.

I vote for a type of weevil. Did you check bugguide.net for your area?

There is something new each year! This is the one for 2015 (I hope it's the only one! )
They kind of move fast for an insect and I have a hard time taking closeups. Thanks. ![Help ID pest Pest_z10](https://i.servimg.com/u/f19/18/26/04/75/pest_z10.jpg)

I believe we have these. I'll ask my grandson (Collin) to look at these pictures.

Squash bug or assassin bug nymphs. check bugguide.net.
The one on the PVC looks like a weevil.

Re: Help ID pest
Thanks, I looked a many photos of both squash and assassin bug nymphs. I'm leaning towards assassin bug at this point. Bad thing is that what every they are, they are on my squash plants!
Re: Help ID pest
Here are the adults, now. Good guys or bad guys? I have looked at photos of both assassin bug and squash bug but still don't know. They are really iPhone shy, and you wouldn't believe the number of photos I had to trash. There are thick areas on the hind legs, and triangles on the thorax. ![Help ID pest Insect11](https://i.servimg.com/u/f19/18/26/04/75/insect11.jpg)

Re: Help ID pest
Looks like a squash bug to me! They almost look like a shield?
It's not an assassin bug - those are quite thin.

I thought there were no squash bugs in the west of the continent.

Re: Help ID pest
Related to the squash bug. Found in the West, sweeping along the southern border states. Guess I'm getting a hand vacuum today. At least they like to hang together. I'm tired reading about them. Time to get rid of them.

No SVB's here.
Re: Help ID pest
Boffer, That's what I thought. That's why this pest, Western leaf-footed bug was such a mystery to me. The nymphs were on a summer squash. Then I found adults on tomatoes. NOooo, not my precious tomatoes.

Re: Help ID pest
The dreaded SVB is different from the dreaded squash bug. If I understand buffer correctly, you guys get squash bugs but not SVB...?

Re: Help ID pest
If you mean me
and this is the squash bug you're referring to..
![Help ID pest Squash-bugs-1](https://2img.net/h/www.extension.umn.edu/garden/insects/find/squash-bugs/img/squash-bugs-1.jpg)
then yes, no SVB's, but I see an occasional squash bug. So far, knocking on head, I haven't had any problems with the squash bugs.

Are they bugs? Or some condition/disease?
