We have sugar snap peas and shell peas. Wishing I had only planted one type now cause I cant tell the difference. Sorry no pictures the kids keep eating them before we get home to take the picture. We also are harvesting lettuce, chard, rainbow chard, radishes, and parsley.

Jewlz, Tomatoes, tomatoes, and more tomatoes!
Question: What tomato(s) would be a good substitute for Romas? Most of my Romas have BER and I know I read somewhere of one or two varieties that can replace Romas for sauces. I would like to try something new next year.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Hmmm.... Another shrimp stir-fry:
Baby bok choi, tatsoi, onion tops, mixed Asian greens and mustards, spinach.
I really can't eat all that I planted! I guess that my neighbors and the local food bank will benefit.
Memo to self: Follow Mel's recommendations on SFGs per person. I should have no more than three, plus the asparagus, potato/leek/carrot, and strawberry beds. Instead, I opted for eight, instead of six. Which still may have been overkill.

Enjoying fresh Kale in our fruit smoothies! Carrot in the first two rows, then kale and finally lettuce.

Eating and picking the first one is worth it for symbolic value alone! You conquered the elements, and bred life from the soil! Go You!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Love chard. I'm growing some rainbow, also, along with green chard because I'm shallow and just think they are pretty. How do they taste?
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
It's tastes wonderful cooked, but I can't eat it raw like kale or collards, coz it feels like it foams up in my mouth...like soap or something. *blech*
Also, they are cut and come again. So this could be about my 6th harvest from the same plants. Take off the outer leaves and the middle ones continue to grow. YUM!

To think that something has beauty is far from being shallow.sanderson wrote:Love chard. I'm growing some rainbow, also, along with green chard because I'm shallow and just think they are pretty. How do they taste?

I like enormous plum. they can get much bigger than Romas, and I like that because that means less to process and peel. I also like Amish Paste, and Jersey Devil. Jersey Devil just looks so darn cool. You can look on the website www.tomatofest.com they have hundreds of tomato varieties and have a list of paste type tomatoes. when using this site you have to enter the site then click on the tomato seed store button on the left.
Also Baker creek seeds has a large selection of tomatoes. There website is www.rareseeds.com I have bought tons of seed from them too.
I hope this helps a little.
~Rachel
P.s. To stay on topic I had grilled summer squash, bell pepper, onion, and green beans from the garden tonight. It was great. I love summer!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Here is my sixth zucchini from one plant. I put it on a plate so you can see the size of it. I may lose the plant but I am hoping I don't (see my post "Zucchini Drooping from the Heat?". I have been keeping them picked smaller and sharing with family. I also picked a yellow summer squash. We had a zucchini and the yellow squash for dinner a few days ago. We just sliced and ate them with the rest of our meal. I haven't had a chance to take pictures of my garden to post but it is mostly doing really well! I pick parsley and have had two tomatoes so far. I have three ripening as I type. They should be done in a day or so if I don't cheat and pick them sooner.
