Where can one purchase coarse-grade vermiculite?
I plan on calling garden centres in and around Winnipeg tomorrow, but thought I'd ask here first. Where does one find coarse-grade vermiculite? I need at least 8 cubic feet.
Thanks in advance!

Vermiculite Database
Hi bratgirl,
If you go to the home page of this forum, there is a link to the Vermiculite Database. There is an International Link after that. I noticed that in Canada there are at least six merchants listed. I don't know much about Canadian geography, but this database may be of some help to you.

If the garden centers or nurseries don't have it, you can try the hydroponic shops.
I know that Mel's mix recipe calls for vermiculite, but I've heard of some folks using Turface, Mule Mix or motor oil absorbing stuff that you can find at some of the feed stores and/or automobile part stores (sorta looks like kitty liter). This stuff is quite popular with some of the container folks in their 5-1-1 mix.

I get it at Ron Paul's garden center they have a 110 liter bag for 30 bucks...they're on St. Mary's Road (in Winnipeg). I think there's a farm supply store somewhere in the Inkster area that has it for just under $30 dollars but I'm not sure what they're called.....

I found mine at St. Mary's Garden Centre. It was $40 (sounds like I should have gone to Paul's!).
The carpet strip things are made of wood.
(sorry this was in my browser for 2 days but didn't sent it!)

Re: Where can one purchase coarse-grade vermiculite?
Thanks Amethyst42 for responding. I purchased 4 bags from Ron Paul's. Didn't even think to look for earthworm casings while I was there. Duh! I cashed in some Airmiles for a $250 Rona gift card. Trying to keep the costs for my SFGs on the cheap. The vermiculite set me back some, but I'm hoping to have bountiful crops. Here's to wishful thinking!

I'm wondering the same thing
I live in Brampton, Ontario about 20 minutes drive from Toronto. Anyone from that area know where to find Vermiculite in bulk?
