Hmm, that is the question. I'm doing container gardening but I'm sure all of you are faced with baby plants going outside at some point. I've been moving my plants to a back porch when I know rain is coming. So far I've been lucky to catch it in time because the last rain we had here was really heavy.

Do you worry about your kids being out in the rain? Do you wait until they are yay tall before letting them get soaked and maybe beat up? What is the general rule, if any? Just a hope and a prayer?

I don't know any general rule but to keep close tabs on your local weather and pull flats and pots in for protection when you can.. The size of your plants vs. handling rain? Well I never heard of a frail-stem rating to go by so experience will be your teacher. If it looks too frail to handle rain, you're probably right and your confidence in the decision will improve with experience.

I'm sure most have their own opinion an method of doing things which will give you more options to choose from Very Happy In my opinion, if plants are hardened off, leave em in the rain. There's not much better than natural rain and sun if you ask me. Of course a bit of common sense comes into play here, but typically if your plants are hardened off they should be fine. We don't get much rain here in Colorado, but when we do, a lot of times it's accompanied with high winds and other fun stuff. So use your best judgement. Most plants are pretty strong and can take a pretty good pounding from nature and bounce right back.
I love natural water and light for my plants sunny + cloudy-bummer = flower

LOL... am I being too protective of my new garden?

I'm concerned that Florida down pours would be too much for them. I guess I'll have to let mother nature take it's course. Thanks y'all.

Not really Jackie. I have seen central Fl gullie washers, what most folk would call a monsoon. I am a trucker who ran Fl for many years
I have seen the wall if water folks call rain where the water is 1/4 inch deep soon as you cross into it.

I lived in Fla for 3 years and those rain 'showers' can be brutal. I've had to pull off the side of the road several times since you couldn't see 10 feet in front of you.
Bring those seedlings inside. They don't need that punishment until they are well-grown and better able to cope.
