I've been lurking (such an ominous sound to that word) and learning here for months. I would have posted sooner but couldn't log in for some reason after registering so I finally gave in and listed another email address so I could complete the process.

I posted in this forum with pictures and information on my garden, so I won't duplicate thm here. Here's my garden thus far: https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t14182-hi-i-m-new-to-the-forums-and-in-your-area#144771

I grew up living with my grandmother who was an amazing gardener and MADE me work endless hours in her garden that as a child I didn't appreciate so much. We lived in San Diego and in her city plot she had bananas, oranges, plums, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, and assorted veggies. She did it all the hard way though - she would have loved Square Foot Gardening had it been around back then.

I've landscape and floral gardened most of my life but finally figured I should learn how to grow my own food. This summer was my first attempt and had mostly success with a few failures like vols eating my cucumber stems grrrrrrrr! That and powdery mildew getting to my spaghetti squash and some slimy something happening to my zucchini.

Anyway, I'm a professional artist who works from home, so gardening is a delightful break from hunching over my desk and computer.
Thanks!

Hi and New from Central Calif Mountains :-) 396615to the forum!! It's amazing the difference between flowers and veggies huh! My biggest nuisance are deer so I am not much help with powdery mildew and slimy zukes but for voles you could try some hardware cloth underneath your beds! The one that it still on the ground anyways:D! Your raised off the ground ones are fabulous!

Thanks for the welcome, Cheyenne!

We actually layered two layers of wire, one turned each direction under the box and weed cloth. The vols climbed into the box. We added the third wood layer and started baiting everywhere we found a hole. Eventually we got them under control, but decided to raise the new boxes and move them further out in the open and vols don't like to be out in the open.

Though there are deer in our area, we have a big dog and we have never seen them here. If they ever discover our raised gardens, they'll think we made them as giant salad bowls just for them rendeer
