I just remembered that I have a photo from a few years ago with myblack bean harvest. I never got to try these ones because I did not leave them to dry long enough and some fungus took over the whole jar. This year, thus far I have just left them all in a series of bowls. I could put them in jars now.

Gwn, I still refer to this rookie topic often. It's one of my favorites and I'm planting some beans this year just for dry storage. I'm curious where you got your turtle beans from?

Rooster, I looked everywhere for some Black Turtle Beans & couldn't find any. I had actually even set aside some from a bag of beans I bought to cook until a few weeks ago I found some at a highly unlikely place: Walmart. Do you have a Wally-World nearby?

When I lived in Oregon, I am pretty sure I got them from Territorial seeds. At least that is where I got more of my seeds then. Kind of cool if others grow dried beans this year.

The traditional heirloom bean of Montana is the Yellow Indian Woman bean. I am curious about it but have never grown it. I am still working on growing green beans here. If I can find the room I am going to plant out the last of my fava bean seeds and try to let them go till dry.

I am also very curious about Kabuli Black Garbanzo some day....

As I contemplate a 3 Sisters garden this year I am getting excited by the variety and history of all the beans available.

Here is a good source that has some history attached.

Indian Woman Yellow bean

Try Vermont Bean. They have kidney and a wide variety of other beans.

I was thinking about trying to grow some black beans and then I see this. Don't know if I will have the room to do it or not but I will at least consider tucking a few in here or there.

Black beans are really complimented by cumin but don't over do it. I love some seasoned black beans cooked with cumin, tomatoes, peppers and some other veggies over couscous.
