For those looking for free 12 foot pallets.....
My work recently resided the building. I talked to the contractor and he gave the new 12 foot long pallets from the siding. I talked to the business distibuter that they bought the siding from and was told anytime I wanted more pallets to just head on up since they just throw them away!!! By taking them apart I have all the wood I need to make 12 foot beds.

Please tell me what kind of siding was shipped on these pallets? So I can know what I am looking for.

...kindling for the wood stove!
Many types of lap siding, metal siding, and metal roofing are delivered to the job site on pallets.

I get so depressed when I go to the country recycle site to take my trash. Frequently there are stacks of pallets sitting to the side of the bulk trash bin BUT THERE IS NO SCAVANGING. Once something is discarded at the site it is gone forever.

sad but true
I agree w/ u Kay on going to the dumpster/recycling center not be able to recycle/reuse something others have discarded. it is a great way to recycle something that can be reused. it is the same way here in Knoxville Tennessee.

Oops,,,,forgot to check back. The siding was wood composite (like James Hardy). Out of two pallets I had everything I needed to make a 4 ft x 14ft x 10 in deep bed. I also had 4 12ft beautiful 2x4's that I am using in my garden to outline where I want next years new triangle bed to go. I will post pics later. Some of the boards were not even or had split when we took the pallets apart.

There are so many great uses for a used pallet! Just as an FYI I often see them listed on my local free cycle group and people looking for them and posting them for free on craigslist. I wish I would have realized how easy they are to come by and used them to build my boxes! I would have saved some serious money and been able to afford more Mel's mix and therefore more beds. Although, as a newbie too many beds at first is probably not a good thing!

Those of you who see the pallets at the landfill, I would think if you write letters to the City or County who has jurisdiction over the landfill, you may be able to get things changed. Our landfill even has a building where cans of paint, chemicals, etc. can be purchased (or may be free, can't remember). You could even contact a local tv station with the suggestion of a good story with them encouraging people to contact the City or County. Maybe you can supply them with pictures of what you can use pallets for or websites where they can see what people have made out of pallets. Its amazing!
Our city has a regular garbage can, a recycle can and a green waste can for people to use. Each has a truck that comes by with these claws that wrap around the lidded cans and raise and dump the load into the trucks. The recycle is picked up by a private company. The green waste is taken to a different area of the landfill and used to make compost. They have mountains of it that they turn regularly and water and then sell by the truck loads. They have very modern huge equipment to process the compost. It's impressive. My neighbor used the straight compost and grew his potatoes in it and they were huge.
Anyway, we haven't always had the compost and recycling programs but someone had to have made the suggestion somewhere. One of our local tv stations has a free website which allows people to sell and sometimes give things away and there are people giving away pallets all the time.
