I expect to pick them in about three weeks. Just in time for fresh blueberry pie for a July fourth cookout at my daughter's house!

Are these in containers, raised beds, or in the ground? I recently purchased three blueberry bushes from a nursery, along with an avocado tree and three citrus trees. The people at the nursery said blueberries like being in the ground, so I was planning on putting them in the ground. If they will grow in containers, I might would rather do that. I want a lot of fruit though. I eat TONS of blueberries, more than just about anything else (fruitwise).

These are in the ground. He actually planted more than these three, but a friend was helping clear an area near the others and he cut them down to about 12" high. I took a chance and transplanted them elsewhere and they had some green on them last year, so I think they might come back. My boyfriend has since passed away (2 years ago), and I had wanted to get some cuttings from his bush, but it looks like his house has been sold. So if these don't come back I will probably get some from the nursery.

I'm sorry about your boyfriend. Sad

I was going to get 6 plants (there are three varieties that grow here and I got one of each) and the girl at the nursery said three plants should be enough. I might go back and get three more though. If I plant them in the ground, how far apart should they be? Can these be planted in a SFG or should they just go in the ground?

One thing that is horribly confusing to me about fruit plants, is the canes. What is a cane? Is that like a branch? I read that some plants produce fruit on new canes, and other ones on canes that are a year old, and that you have to trim the old ones. I have no idea what this means. thinking

Jazzycat, I highly recommend contacting your local County Extension Service for precise information regarding growing fruit. They truly are the best source for the kind of information you are seeking regarding the planting and care required for blueberries in your area.
