Bunny poo

It makes me want to get one again, but they remind my husband of an ex who had house rabbits so he says no. I'll have to be happy with the guinea pig. We use recycled newspaper bedding but I don't put it in my food garden compost.

we have been in contact with a breeder in our area and she said she has a few litters that will be ready in about two weeks

im hoping in a couple of weeks we will have two sister baby bunnies

we are going to keep them indoors for awhile and then transfer them to out side houses.....

our question is .....we want to feed them from the garden as much as we can.....i know we will have to provide other food for them as well....but what do you all grow to feed your bunnies? and what are foods we shouldnt give them?

The biggest thing is to introduce foods slowly (5 days is good) and to feed plenty of good quality hay.

Two does in a large enough cage will most likely get along but you will have to supervise them, because if they DO decide to fight, that is it. I have 4 does who are bonded, and even after the winter separated (but next to each other) they are getting along again. However, they are in a 3X12 bunny tractor. I still harvest the bunny berries by moving it every few days and scraping up the left behind berries. They are working on mowing the lawn. Since I sell Angoras I recommend people keep them in cages side by side and let them out to play in a safe play when they can supervise.

I found a breeder of lop eared rabbits on the internet. I wanted to get lots of rabbit poo. This breeder is only three blocks from me and he raises them for selling, breeding and eating. He cannot bring himself to do the deed himself and has someone who comes gets them and brings back the meat. That to me would be a good way to do it if I wanted to raise rabbits for meat. I don't know if I could eat rabbit, but I heard it is good. I have a friend who a few years ago her and her family bought a house on a few acres of land. They bought goats for milking, they raise rabbits for eating and she can take care of it super fast for dinner. It is inspiring how they have worked so hard to become self-sufficient without having the background before starting this. Of course they have a good garden also.

Back to the breeder, what he does with his rabbit habitat is each has its own cage. He has a piece of wood a bit bigger than the rabbit in each cage so the rabbit is not sitting on wire all the time. Then when the rabbit wants to go potty, it goes to the wire part and goes. Under the cages he has large slats of wood side by side and up against the block barn wall. To clean up he just uses a flat shovel and it is quite quick and easy, no need to try to separate dirt from poo and he doesn't need to use bedding.

We have had about four rabbits when my kids were growing up. Boy did they have great personalities. They loved to hop around and it was so fun to pet them and watch them. I and others in my family are very allergic to them but we still had them as pets.
