bunny droppings and pine pellets

Could I put the bunny droppings with the pine pellets in the garden or will the pine pellets soak up all the water.

Of course you can Laughing

....if you water them well often .

I would not reccommend it though ,for the pine pellets will take the nitrogen out the rabbit dung and continue to do so until the pine reaches a very advanced stage of decomposition .

So you'd be on to a loser from square one for anything up to a year or more..

Are they composted? Are you using them as one part of the compost in
the Mel's Mix? I would not add them directly to your garden unless they
are composted. Hope that helps. If not, let us know how you want to
use them.

Thanks so much everybody it's been a great help. I used to get rabbit droppings from a friend who had rabbits outside in a hutch. I put the droppings in a 5 gal bucket filled it with water and used this as a fertilizer. It's the best. But my own bunny is inside and goes in a box with the pine droppings and urine. It's hard to separate from the pine. I have decided not to use it since it leeches nitrogen. I will try an experiment with a second compost pile and see how that turns out. I am now potting all my vegetables> I am tired of fighting with the Florida sandy coastal soil.

Shnorhig, you could switch to either Carefresh, Soft-sorb, or Yesterday's News instead of pine. They're paper-based and compostable and will break down quickly in a pile. I compost my guinea pig's used bedding (she's bedded on Soft-sorb) and a friend at work who uses Carefresh just brought me his rabbit's litter too. Smile

I'm thinking of switching to Carefresh too - I'd use Yesterday's News, but she's on it all the time and I don't think it'll be as comfortable.

Thanks I'll do that. He is a very good bunny considering his very difficult life. I rescued him. He pees on the bedding so I have his sleeping area with papers. Otherwise his is free in the house. I hate cages. Thanks for the good advice

If we didn't have dogs, cats, and kids constantly running around, I'd love to let Stella have the run of the house - but I don't think she'd like it, actually; she's very shy. I'm not so sure guinea pigs are as easily house-trained as bunnies, either.

We have 5 cats and 1 dog. They ignor the bunny (Jasper) except one cat who likes Izzy alot and they chase each other around. I do not leave any of them alone with the bunny just to be on the safe side. They are all inside/outside. In out ,in out, in out. We live in the woods.
