I live in Sisters, Oregon where gardening is quite the challenge. Here in the high desert we have a very short growing season and can get a killing frost ANY day of the year. My SFG is three years old and doing well. I have just completed the Master Gardener certification program through Oregon State University and look forward to using the skills I learned there and this forum to make it even better.

CLYDE!! I lived in Sisters for five years and it was as close to "home" as anywhere I've ever lived!! Oh, how I miss it!
You are right about the growing season, though. We had flurries on June 6th and September 30th of the same calendar year once. Tomatoes were pretty much out of the question for us, but I grew some lovely leafy greens and mountain wildflowers.

I had great success with tomatoes this year even with the late start to hot weather - both in and out of my small greenhouse. A wascally wabbit played havoc with some of my other crops though.

So nice to have another Oregonian join the group.
I am so jealous that you have completed your MG certification. In our county the OSU MG classes start in January and run thru March, and due to health issues, I may not be able to attend this year. Oh Well, there is always next year.
Here on the Southern Oregon Coast, own growing season is long, but very cool. We too have problems growing tomatoes and other plants that require heat.
Looking forward to hearing more about your SFG. In case you didn't know, we absolutely love photos.
Again, Welcome!

As requested attached is a link to a photo of my SFG going night night for the winter. Garlic and shallots planted, blueberries and raspberries trellised and fertilized, beds topped with aged horse compost. The ground cover is hazelnut shells. The greenhouse contains two 2x8 foot beds.
