Just found your website. I began building my raised bed garden a few years ago. Raised boxes are in place and now I am finding lots of information about a new to me idea "square foot gardening". Can't wait to put it in place in our garden. Each of the kids choose 1 garden box this year. So this will be a family affair.

What is the best tool available for sectioning the gardens into square foot areas?

Welcome from another Texan -- I'm just a bit north of you. New member from Central Texas Icon_smile

Folks use all kinds of things -- twine, wire, wood lathes, old venetian blinds. Look in the photo section to get some ideas.

Hope you will become a regular around here!

I put short screws every 12 inches and tied yarn to make my grid. Just using what I have.

Welcome from south Texas! We've lived all over Texas in the past 10 years and find ourselves in the southern tip now.

Welcome rwthryt,
Like you, I discovered SFG after building and planting a raised bed garden. SFG really is raised bed gardening on steroids! Much more production from a smaller space. ... I think you'll find that wood of some type is the most common grid making material - but almost everything you can think of has been used by someone. Like Mel says in the book, I found that twine just doesn't hold up in the Texas heat and will rot/break by the end of June.

You'll find the majority of us Texans in the Lower South regional forum. If you're looking for region specific information that's the place to go.

Welcome to the Forum.
