It's a first !!
First time I've ever gotten Butternut Squash !! These plants volunteered from my compost. They are from the seed of a Butternut given to me by a patient at our office. I tried planting from seed I saved from that one, started in pots, but I didn't have any luck. The squash was nowhere as big as those in the store, but it was just the right size for me and IT WAS DELICIOUS !!!! Roasted it plain by itself and then put a bit of butter on it. They take up a lot of room but I think they are well worth it !! ![Smile](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Sounds delicious. Did you find the plants growing in your compost and move them to your garden? I have never seen anything growing in my compost so that puzzles me.

One of my favorite vegies. I have not grown any yet but plan to when I have another box. I have the seeds in the fridge
.
There is a great soup on line. Just enter butternut squash and hazelnut soup. If I showed up to Thanksgiving dinner with out it I think I'd be turned away.
By the way when did you plant it and are you growing it verticaly?
