My onions have stopped growing?
I planted sweet and red onion "bulbs" about 5 weeks ago and they have done so well. But for the last week or week and a half they seemed to have stopped growing. Is this normal or is something wrong with my onions or my mels mix?
Is there something I need to fertilize them with to make them continue growing?

Oh dear! Are the leaves starting to brown? Perhaps they are just taking a rest if the temperature is too hot or cool.
Re: My onions have stopped growing?
Some of them have a few brown tips, but they dont look like they are dying. I sacrificed one today and pulled it up to see what it was doing. It is a red onion and it doesnt look much bigger than the bulb that I planted but it had a good root system. This is just my first garden and I dont want to loose anything because I didnt do something I was supposed to

Re: My onions have stopped growing?
hmmmmmmmm......interesting link. I have not had great results with my onions and have not been able to figure it out. If, according to your link, bulb thickening is determined by temperature, it explains part of the problem. We don't have very long warm summers.
I added bonemeal to my onions that I planted last fall to see if that would give them a better start and larger bulbs. We will see what this year brings.
Best of luck with yours.
