Volunteer tomato in the compost bin
I've got over a dozen tomato plants growing in various boxes, some from seed started under grow lights, two from a plant sale and one from the big box store, but my largest plant is the volunteer I discovered growing out of a vent in my compost bin. I thought about trying to get it out and transplant it, since I don't think I'll be able to turn the compost without killing it otherwise, but right now I'm leaning more towards letting it grow. I've got all the compost I need for this years garden, and even if I don't turn the pile till Autumn, it should be ready to use in Spring, right?

Re: Volunteer tomato in the compost bin
I would think it would be ready to use. I left mine over summer and autumn and used it this spring.
I have volunteers of herbs and a tomato plant in the beds.. ekkkkk I am letting them grow until I have a fairly good idea what they are. I have found out lemon and lime basil are going to be hard to figure. I love my garden life
