What I've learned with my first SF

Okay, here's what I've learned with my first SF.....it matters where you place your plants. My garden is doing great...the cabbage and broccoli are huge, and the broccoli is already producing, but they are blocking the smaller plants, carrots, peppers and beets. Next time I think I'll plant the cabbage and broccoli in the middle and the smaller plants on the outside squares. Do you agree?

Yes, I agree. However, I can also tell you that I've found it helps to keep the frequently harvested things on the outside squares and the long, time-consuming veggies on the inside. Broccoli qualifies on the inside and carrots. Lettuces and radishes are rarely in the middle squares in my SFG.

I love your little broccolis! I have learned the same thing. I did not think too much about placement ad know I need to change things up for sure.

What beautiful broccoli! Did you seed that directly into the garden?

Thanks for the responses. My broccoli came from small plants from either Home depo or the co-op rather than seeds. I'm so impatient!

I'm so glad you said that Pam because my broccoli seedlings were a total fail and I was wondering about picking up plants. It may be too late to plant even in my area, but it may not.

NHGardener, we've had some nights below freezing, so my seedlings all come in at night (or stay in under the lamps) so you should be fine too! You'll just have a later harvest.
