We saw the sunshine today and it didn't snow ALL day. bounce
It is supposed to snow tonight and all day tomorrow though. Earlier
this week the forecast for this weekend and most of next week was for
more VERY cold weather BUT this evening Environment Canada website says
that by next Wed. it will be PLUS 1 Celsius. Yaayyyy!!! That means
that the snow will be starting to melt next week! I can hardly wait.

My mom (87) has been very sick and last week, in between shovelling
snow, I was working overtime to try to get some things finished up at
work so I could make a trip down to see her. She has cellulitis in her
foot and due to her allergies and kidney failure is unable to take the
best medications to get it under control. They were talking of having
to amputate a couple of toes and part of her foot. However, on Tuesday
they said she was starting to improve and yesterday things were looking
quite good so I have cancelled my trip.

things are looking up!!

I'm glad your Mother is feeling better Gwynn!

I'll bet you can't wait until that thaw comes. We're in the midst of a thaw right now. I don't think I've ever been so happy to see so much rain. Laughing We'll have a high of 5C tomorrow and 25-35mm of rain. It's crazy for this time of year, but I'll take it. Maybe I can get some boxes filled and planted in the next week or so. My brassicas are potted up to the first leaves and are getting their first set of true leaves. At the very least, this warmish weather will be good for putting them out for some fresh air.

Have you started anything indoors yet?

I haven't started anything yet. I plan to in the next couple of weeks. I have started things too early before and find that the plants don't do so good if they are too mature when they get put outdoors. They seem to be able to handle it better when they are younger. Kinda like people, I guess. The little ones don't seem to mind the cold as much as we do when we are older. LOL!

Looking forward to the thawing does not begin to describe how I am feeling about now. it is supposed to go to +1C on Wednesday. Got to get out the flip-flops!!! You know you are Canadian when it warms up to -15C and it feels "balmy".

lol!

If the temp gets to +1, I'm out in just a hoodie. I never wear a thick winter coat and rarely wear gloves. I guess we just get acclimitized (sp?) to what we grow up in. -15C to -20C is normal winter weather around here and I just wear a light jacket. Of course, I would love to become acclimitized to hot and sunny Florida weather! My lifelong dream is to move into Cinderella's Castle at Disney World and have coffee with Mickey every morning. Acclimated was the word I was looking for. I really need to drink more coffee in the morning! My brain just does not want to work before 11 a.m. Great news! 34617 Great news! 34617 Great news! 34617

I went on a trip to Las Vegas in the month of December a few years back. When we landed, there was a very light dusting of snow falling. I mean, it wasn't even really staying on the ground, just blowing around a little bit. We sat in the plane for 2 hours before we could get to the gate to disembark because they stopped letting planes take off. We had a good laugh out of it, but I guess Las Vegas is just not used to getting any kind of snow. When we finally got off the plane, the locals were all wearing toques, gloves and heavy jackets. We were walking around in jeans and a hoodie. We were pegged as Canadians the whole trip, I think because the cool weather didn't seem to bother us.

Hah! My blood has "thinned out" a bit unfortuantely, but I know what you mean. I used to shovel snow barefoot and wearing shorts. (No, really.) When I transplanted to California for a while, I would have giggle fits at times due to the antics of the locals. If the temperature dipped below 70 F, the parkas would come out.... Laughing (To be fair, they were far more tolerant of really hot temps than I was. It took me a long, long time, but eventually I managed to wear a long-sleeve shirt in 120-deg weather without keeling over. At least it's a dry heat.)
