what I'm growing
Right now, I'm going to grow Cabbage, collards, lettuce, and onions. In the spring I want to plant tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and eggplant. I'm currently trying to learn how to sprout seeds with an Aero Garden we got for our wedding and haven't used but once. Also, I'm trying to figure out the best way to grow a lot of strawberries. I'm interested in the stackable grow pots the sale at the hydroponics store. I put the fence up to keep the dogs and other critters out!

I was admiring your fence, I need one, I may start salvaging all the wood hubby has lying around, and use that roll of hog wire we found lying along side the road. Yep, I made him stop and pick it up, it was brand new.
We went to the salvage yard the other day, and I saw all kinds of neat things I wanted to bring home to use for trellises. Wrought Iron fences, and things like that.

Cinder block!
Why didn't I think of that? Inexpensive, long-lasting, durable, paintable!
Do you think Mels Mix would 'stay inside' pretty good? Or could a little bit 'leak' out between the blocks? I'm thinking the gap between blocks may get bigger over the years with the freezing/thawing of the ground. But other than that, I'd love to make my next SFG from cinder blocks.

CarolynPhillips has made many many gardens using cinder blocks with no mortar between the joints. There is a lot of information on that page.

If you think that might be an issue, line the inside of the block wall with weedcloth or heavy plastic. I like blocks because their holes can be used for growing stuff too.

garden looks great! especially like the fence, this is gonna be my first garden this spring and have been looking for fencing ideas as i have 2 big dogs that like to stand on my chainlink fence and talk (bark) to dogs walking through neighborhood. i dont think wire fence with the standard green stakes will be strong enough to hold them. are those 2x4's atached to the outside of 4 x 4 posts and how tall is the fence? looks great and good luck!!

Thanks Shawn! Yes, they're 4 X 4 posts with 2 X 4 framed on the outside. The fence is 3' tall. It's some kind of pvc coated fence from home depot. I thought that metal post wouldn't do the trick for dogs too. I'm thinking of planting strawberries around the base of the fence in cinder blocks.
