Score! Material for making SFG beds!
I just found a source of free lumber for my new SFG boxes: Pallets and some other scrap lumber from the business right next door to my workplace. They're even going to use their forklift to load my truck for me. SO EXCITED!!!
:dancingpepper:
There was even some sheeting material (not sure how thick yet, may have to double it up) so if I can find something to use as a base, I may be able to make a tabletop or two!![Very Happy](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_biggrin.png)

Wonderful, freebies and they will place the material on your truck too!

Very nice, free is AWESOME. I haven't even officially used my table tops and I'm already wondering why I didn't make them the first year. Well... to be fair, I didn't really make them, hubby did, but still. I'm looking forward to really being able to see my little babies up close and personal, in my face. If you have stuff to make it, go for it.

Indeed. Now I just need to figure out a good, inexpensive walkway ground cover. It's all bare landscaping fabric back there right now. Last year in my front yard, I learned that bark mulch attracts pillbugs (roly polies)...and I don't want a repeat of that if I can help it. Rubber mulch would be ideal, but gasp, that stuff is way out of my price range. May have to go with gravel unless I can find a better idea.

My son and I made a couple boxes out of oak pallets. It was so labor intensive I went to 84 Lumber and bought some 2x6x8 lumber! LOL I hade using a sazall to cut through 1000 nails! They do look nice though.

Wow, a thousand nails! How many beds did you end up building?
Re: Score! Material for making SFG beds!
I know this is an OLD thread, but I just had to revive it. Found out today at my new job that virtually everything parked at the back of the building by the dumpster can be scavenged. We have some supplies (shelving and such) that is delivered packed in what we 'loosely' call crates - basically a wooden cage with the fixtures suspended within the cage, keeping them well protected from damage. The 2x4's these frames are made from cannot be put in the dumpster, even after disassembly, so I GET TO WHACK THEM APART AND HAUL THEM HOME IF I WANT!!! Do I want?! YES!!!!!
I am envisioning my new asparagus bed, my new compost bins, and maybe a few new boxes with double-stacked 2x4's. I may even end up with enough to make a bench or three!
GG
PS - I was inspired to ask because I am currently reading my ANSFG 2nd Ed. on my Nook and within the first 60 pages Mel has several times mentioned that his favorite wood is free wood!

Ya can't beat free!
Are you going to get the stuff after hours so your patients don't see you scrounging in the garbage?

Re: Score! Material for making SFG beds!
Gotta love free! Check out the PS I added! I bought a rubber mallet on the way home from work today. I am going to head out there with my new tool after work Friday evening and collect some building materials. There are also several metal shelves, which do not have the standards with them, but I think I can make some out of the 2x4's, so I can have some new free basement shelves as well. If I get them made I will take some pics.
