Peas in New England
Okay, so it's March and I am impatient.
Part of me thinks I need to wait another month and plant peas at their traditional time around here - mid-April. But then books, including Mel's, say peas can be planted as soon as the soil is friable. Well, the dirt in SFG boxes is GORGEOUS! Do I wait.....?

We all have our own gardening habits and preferences. I always plant cool crop seeds early. If they don't grow, I really haven't lost anything.
Planting early crops takes the edge off my spring fever, so I am much more patient waiting for the right time to plant warm crops.

In Lake Stevens and Oak Harbor, Washington (where my grandmas gardened) said, "Plant peas on Abraham Lincoln's birthday"
Some years I would kick snow off of a row, some years I would wait until Saint Patrick’s Day and plant peas and potatoes at the same time. When I did not I always wished that I had. My neighbors peas would be so far ahead of mine.

I have planted some peas, by the way, and am now working on planting seeds inside for slow starters like leeks, and thinking I should have started earlier!
