New SFGer in Southern Cali!
Hello, I decided a few months ago that this year I was going to expand my garden from one tomato plant and some herbs for cooking to a full-blown garden from seed--not plants. Initially, I was inspired to show my 3 year old daughter where food comes from, as I grew up in the country in Michigan and had a HUGE garden growing up. I remember my grandmother canning as well. How fun would it be to produce enough tomatoes to make my own sauce!?
If you think I could become a die hard--you are right! I love cooking and want to reap the reward of living in Southern California now. Not to mention, having a garden to maintain and cook with will be great since it is not "work," but pleasure and therapeutic.
So, I ran into the SFG book on accident after learning how expensive soil was, and decided to go from potted veggies (a few of them) to this method.
Anyone who has some friendly tips for this newbie is welcome to share. I am starting my seeds now and will be ready to build and plant shortly.
Happy Planting!

Welcome to the club! I'm a newbie too but there are plenty of knowledgable folks who share info and help us along the way. Everyone is great! Don't miss the gallery photos and please share your photos with us. Happy gardening...carol

I am in Riverside County too! My challenge I have set for myself is to have a year round garden. Being from back east myself (PA and MA) I really appreciate the opportunity to do so.
I am near Temecula - southern part of the county.

I have only one suggestion for you: dive in and enjoy!
This is my first year with an SFG (I've done other gardens in the past) and I've found that it's really easy. If you have some experience and you're willing to keep at it then I don't think you need anything else.
Just enjoy!
