SFG Book - 2nd edition or 3rd edition?
I had the 2nd edition of the book from the library for awhile and want to just buy a copy - but I've seen that there's a 3rd edition. Is it worth getting the 3rd edition over the 2nd edition, do you think? At least I know what to expect from the 2nd edition since that's the one I read, and I'm happy to get that one.
I read somewhere that the only real differences were some informaiton about drip irrigation and coconut coir in the 3rd edition. Is there much else in the 3rd edition that makes it that much more valuable than the 2nd edition?

Thanks for asking this question, as I was wondering too. I am a brand newbie SFG and have the second edition but would happily buy the third edition if the more experienced folk here recommend it.

This is my take. If you already own the 2nd Edition of ALL NEW SFG, you don't have to buy the 3rd. All of the basics are in the 2nd, in fact, that's the book I started with.
If it's your first book, buy the 3rd Edition. The 3rd Edition has more information and photos.

Okay, thanks. Maybe I'll just go for the 3rd edition then.

Re: SFG Book - 2nd edition or 3rd edition?
I have all of the SFG books except the Kids book because of my position in the SFG organization. I'm sure there will be another Edition sometime and I will buy that one.
2nd and 3rd Editions:
1. Mel's Mix in raised beds with grids.
2. Trellises for growing vertically whenever possible.
Sanderson's addition: 3. Good watering so the MM doesn't dry out, because it can be a bear to rehydrate it once it's in the bed.

Previously I made a joking reference to "Square Decimeter" gardening. I didn't realize Mel had actually written "Square Metre Gardening." Presumably a book for the 95% of the world that uses the metric system?

Re: SFG Book - 2nd edition or 3rd edition?
Well I bit the bullet and have purchased the third edition on Amazon. I have 2nd edition on my Kobo e-reader but found it quite hard to see some of the diagrams in enough detail. I saw another post about people converting their books to spiral bound or inserting the pages in plastic sleeves, which sounded like a great idea. It seems sacrilegious to destroy a brand new book but I also bought a 150 pocket display book and will put the pages in there as I am sure the book will be well used. Although in Australia, I decided to go with square foot gardening rather than square metre as there seems to be a lot more information and advice around in imperial measurements. Additionally I have purchased a seeding square to make life easier and I am pretty sure that they aren't available in square metres Happy Gardening everyone - most of you are gearing up towards good growing weather, whereas our days are getting cooler and shorter and planting choices are rather limited.
