Weather, elements, storms and critters.
I plated 159 Vidalia onions a few weeks ago. I have to go out every morning and do damage control and replant the ones that cats, birds or squirrels dug up. My neighbor has a cat who likes to dig up my potato bed to take a dump. Between the hail storms, lots of rain and high winds we've had, it's been a rough start this spring.
Good thing we have going is, it's still early and as the plants get established, they'll have a good chance of making it. I planted three 4x8 beds of potatoes this spring because they will keep a long time as these prices keep going up.
I don't have any tender plants out yet because last April 21st, we had a snow storm. I've learned my lesson about planting early.

Hi Mr. B! The only thing I have planted other than my garlic is my cold frame. It has been really cold here! I’d like to get my sugar snaps, kohlrabi and potatoes in ASAP though. And onion sets. I’m clearly behind!
Good to hear from you!

Re: Weather, elements, storms and critters.
I just came in from pulling some green onions. I planted them March 2nd and been harvesting them for a few weeks now. I loves me some green onions. I planted my potatoes on April 1st.Scorpio Rising wrote:Hi Mr. B! The only thing I have planted other than my garlic is my cold frame. It has been really cold here! They're not coming up yet but should be seen something as it gets a little warmer. I should have had my lettuce and radish's in by now. Going to plant them later today.

Re: Weather, elements, storms and critters.
One year, I "planted" forks upside down, sticking up quite a bit. That kept the neighbor's cat out of the bed. If they can't squat comfortably, they will move on. My cat was so great. She never used the beds when they were down on the ground. Probably because I gave her a little bed of dried leaves, then praised her. She was so darn easy to train. Show her, she got it.
You might have to make a chicken wire frame if that trick doesn't work.

I walked out to see about planting my sprouted potatoes last night and ci couldn’t even get to the bed, it’s wet! Guess I will wait a couple days.

Re: Weather, elements, storms and critters.
We had hard rain all day yesterday. I checked my potatoes yesterday before the rain and found they were just starting to sprout. Hope the rain doesn't cause them to rot.Scorpio Rising wrote:I walked out to see about planting my sprouted potatoes last night and ci couldn’t even get to the bed, it’s wet!
