Kyoto Red Carrot
Received a seed order from Baker Creek, and it included a free package of the Kyoto Red Carrot. Never heard of them before, but they sound delicious. And, they are just in time for planting. The seed package says, "Must be planted in late summer, fall, winter. Not for spring planting."
Yesterday I started preparing a bed for fall planting of beets and carrots, and today these show up in the mail. Have to re-draw my planting chart!

Re: Kyoto Red Carrot
Same here
Reviews on the website are so-so. Not sure if I will plant them, I have bad luck with carrots anyway, let us know how it goes!

Re: Kyoto Red Carrot
I had excellent results with them. I planted them for the fall crop, since they are cold weather carrots. Nearly every seed I planted germinated, and they grew quickly. I harvested them a little earlier than recommended 70-90 days, after we had a good freeze. They were well developed at around 60 days, and they had a great, sweet taste - some of them never made it to the house!
These are great carrots for eating raw, either as carrot sticks dipped in ranch dressing, or as a salad - made a delicious salad with shredded Kyoto Red Carrots and dried cranberries. They are attractive being red all the way through instead of just on the skin. I will definitely plant these again next fall. I was nice having the normal summer crop of orange carrots, and then this fall's red carrots.
