Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Today I found two squash bugs on my cucumber plants. They were close to each other so I picked them off with one piece of duct tape and then squished them.

More views without comment. We are under another heat watch with current conditions being 31C/88F, 50% humidity, feels like 38C/101F.

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Still finding squash bug eggs. Also destroyed two more adults this morning. It's a never ending battle.
On the positive side I continue to find new Canada Crookneck Squash and the pollinators are out in numbers. I just noticed that there looks to be an unwanted visitor in the flower along with the bees.

First cucumber of the year. I used some of it in a green smoothie.

I'm surprised it made it into the house. I can just picture you hiding around the side of the house, quietly munching down that cucumber.

Actually I don't need to hide. Mrs TD is not a big fan of cukes and a few other things I grow.

It looks like your garden is handling the heat and those early squash marauders well. It is lovely.

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Thanks folks for the kind comments.
I tried spraying a couple of squash bugs with Dawn/water and it killed them. They were in an awkward location so the spray made it easier to get them.
Just brought in a Compari Tomato and two Yellow Plum Tomatoes. I devoured one of the yellow Tom's after the photo was taken. Yum.

Mrs TD preboiled them in water until they were tender. She then sautéd them in butter. They were delicious.sanderson wrote:What do you do with the yellow wax beans?

Are you heading there for fun, or for estate business?trolleydriver wrote:Hi CC. Where have you been hiding? I'm going to be in your birth city tomorrow.
I don't seem to post here as often as I used to. I do stop by and read more than post...and sometimes just HAVE to jump in. But my gardening skills seem to be waning lately...

Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
Been away for ten and a half days. The garden has become a jungle. While we were away there was a lot of rain including a damaging rainfall on July 23rd that set a new record for rain for July 23rd in Ottawa. Here are photos of the SFG and other veggie gardens without comments.

Wow!! You should go out of town more often! I am, like, sooo jealous of your Canadian butternut.
Re: Fourth Year SFG in Canada
This morning was garlic harvest in my SFG. Planted forty cloves last October and have been rewarded with forty bulbs. Yum.
Ten squares available now to plant something else.
