Hello, I am using the square foot gardening method for the first time this year and I have a 4' x 6' raised bed that I want to dedicate to just growing June Bearing Strawberries in, can someone tell me how this is done for JB Strawberries? Do I plant 1 plant per sq. ft. and allow runners? Or 4 plants per sq. ft. and snip the runners? Please advise and thank you! SFG/Honeoye June Bearing Strawberries/Missouri Icon_biggrin

Hi Macygray

My experience with strawberries is little - I've only just planted mine a few months ago, but so far so good.
Anyway...I think that regaurdless of wether you plant 1/square or 4/square, you should pinch off runners. That way, the main plant is able to establish itself more strongly, and you may be able to get a few more years out of it.
i actaully planted 3 plants/square in a triangle pattern. It was simply because of the number of plants I bought, and it happened to work out that way.

I mixed some june-bearing and ever-bearing together, so hopefully I'll harvest all season.

Oh.....are you pinching off flowers the first year? I read that you're supossed to do that....yikes! I've picked a few flowers, but I feel so bad about it.
