Re: Senseless Banter...
Talking about wood furniture in another topic. Ken was given some aged walnut and he made a bookcase/nick nack for my cubical when I worked at the health dept.
A little table for under an inlaid wood framed mirror. Second photobomb.
His and her oak highboys.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Thanks, I'll tell him. He made an oak grandfather clock but it is inaccessible at the moment (remember, we moved everything from 4 bedrooms into the living room, and I am, well, slow to get the last items replaced). The little wood items on top of the highboys, and various built-in oak cabinets for the house.
Yes, she photobombed. When I take pics, she seems to find it fascinating.

A toddler who was found chewing on a slug. After the initial surge of disgust the parent said, "Well, what does it taste like?" "Worms," was the reply.
How do you know you are a Master Gardener?
There is a decorative compost container on your kitchen counter.
You would rather go to a nursery to shop than a clothing store.
You prefer gardening to watching television.
You plan vacation trips to arboretums and public parks.
Dirt under your fingernails and calloused palms are matters of pride.

Re: Senseless Banter...
has anyone 60 and older ,cut the cable cord. I choose this group because they're more resistant to change. We paid 233.00 last month for basic cable, internet 15/15 and land phone with frontier, which used to be verizon.
Was looking at this site for for some clarification of cutting the cable as a start. Any ideas?

Re: Senseless Banter...
I'm getting closer and closer. I bought a refurbished 'Roku' stick for $30 from Amazon over a year ago. It plugs into the HDMI port in the back of the TV. I'm still learning how to use it. My basic cable is only $19 so I'm not in a hurry.

Re: Senseless Banter...
When we moved in here 21 years ago, the former owners had cable. Told the company to turn it off. THREE YEARS later they knock on our door saying "start paying or we cut it off." Told them to cut it off & haven't looked back.
We're on an antennae. Still get Public Television & all the majors. And a lot of the major stations have minor ones as well.
(But, yes, when we get the opportunity, we will watch cable, lol!)

Re: Senseless Banter...
I've taken the first step. I got rid of our Rogers Home Phone which was costing about $45 per month and have gone with Ooma (Voice Over Internet Protocol - VOIP). It works great and costs way less. There is an initial investment for the Ooma device that connects to the Internet.has55 wrote:has anyone 60 and older ,cut the cable cord. I choose this group because they're more resistant to change. We have a Roku device for streaming content including Netflix. I am trying out a really cheap antenna which brings in the main Canadian Networks and a few others in perfect high definition. My concern about dropping cable is that we will lose sports channels, US PBS and other US networks. But the cost of cable is way too much so I'm still thinking of dumping it.
My kids (both married) have both cut the cord. No cable TV and no home phone (they use cell phones). They do have unlimited high speed Internet plans.

Re: Senseless Banter...
We operate mostly on cells, but have to have a land line for our alarm system & fax machine... Otherwise we'd get rid of it!
Re: Senseless Banter...
I'm keeping my land line. My laptop has a modem. So when the power goes out (which happens too often in my neighborhood) I can plug it into the phone line and dial up to the internet using Juno free internet. NetZero offers it also.

Re: Senseless Banter...
I did. Long and ridiculous and sad reason why, but I am done with the over $200/mo cable bill. I don't even watch much TV. I bought an antenna from Amazon, $35, had a couple guys put it on my house, it is remote controlled and I get stations dependbly from 60+ miles away regardless of weather.has55 wrote:has anyone 60 and older ,cut the cable cord. I love it. I still have the high speed internet, though. Me and 2 college kids here. So cable bill went from 220 to 70/mo. And I still have Farmer Vision! All major networks, PBS, Fox, and each have a sub station that is kinda cool....free! Do it! No Fear! Read books! LOL!
