Watermelon advice Empty Watermelon advice

Hi,

I need Watermelon growing advice. I'm growing a few plants in containers. The vines have not grown over the side yet, where I hope the melons will be growing. Yet, I'm already getting flowers. I don't want melons in the container, should I simply snip them off and wait for the vines on the ground to flower? And what about side vines? Should those be snipped off in order for the plant to concentrate on the main vine? I'm new at growing watermelons, any advice is appreciated.

Bart, I believe the first flowers are prob. male. The female flowers will have the fruit behind it. I would wait to do any snipping until you see fruit.
As far as lateral vines, depends on the variety. Some will only put 1 melon on per vine,  other varieties put on lots of melons on each vine.
If I were you, I'd wait til fruit is on, decide if they are where you want them, then snip, snip.
All you have to do is ensure that the pot has enough compost/fertilizer to support the plant.
