I know I read somewhere on the forum about how to tell when a watermelon was ripe, but I couldn't find the post. So could someone please help me out and take a look at my watermelon and see if you think it is ripe yet.
It is a Hokkaido black watermelon, and I read some reviews from the place I purchased the seed and people were saying the watermelon doesn't really turn black, some were no darker green than mine.

When I turn it over it has a yellow spot where it sits on the MM. The stem is still green.

I had to look this up too, Josh! I've never grown watermelon before this year, so I don't know what I'm doing. I've read there are several ways to tell your melons are ready. One is that the tendrils nearest the melon will shrivel and turn brown. The melon will smell very melony! The spot on the ground will turn yellow. I think I read also that the rind will become shiny, and the melon will sound hollow if thumped. But wait until someone else chimes in because my melons are only the size of apples, lol, and I have a ways to go before I harvest anything.

I went by the brown tendril above the watermelon and yellow spot last year, and it worked very well! There was something about the glossiness of the melon too? Can't remember tho. Mine are still about the size of a golf ball, so I don't think we'll get any this year Mad

yes, brown tendrils is the sign that it is ripe. But you have to pick it soon after it has turned brown which means you have to keep a check on it. Sometimes it is brown a while before you realize it and it turns out too ripe and grainy.
