There new are storms on those windows.  Are they not supposed to do that with storms on them?  Can't remember now if the Jack Frost is on the storms or the windows.

There were also feathers but I didn't think they looked as much like plants in a SFG.

Beautiful frost photos, CC!

I escaped to south FL for a week, and it was tough coming back to bigger snowbanks. I think I'm getting old because Florida is looking better all the time.

Garden? What garden? Thankfully there's a pair of snowshoes here, and with another 12" coming, they're getting a lot of use.

Yesterday morning, while I was watching the weather forecast for the next few days, I kept having visions of packing up some clothes and the cat, jumping into the car and heading to FL.  The urge was SO strong. My Miami apt has recently been vacated and is just sitting there on the bay, waiting.... sunny

Almost time to plant seeds.  Not feeling that urge yet. Rolling Eyes

Oh, the Jack Frost is on the inside of only 2 storms, and only when it drops to about 10 or lower at night.  Above that there's some condensation on them.  Don't know why there's humidity INSIDE there. thinking I don't open those windows this time of year.

Where's Bill Nye when you need him?

Now you did it, CC. I'm going to dream about vacant apartments in Miami.... Let me tell you. There IS another life out there, and it's w-a-r-m... Okay, it was in the low 70s and my mother was very chilled, but shorts were fine with me.

But the indoor seeding was a factor in making my visit down there late January/early Feb. This year my plants are going to be mini King Kongs when I transplant.

Reminds me of a few years ago when I indoor seeded my peas too early, and ended up with foot high pea plants in the bedroom. Spring delayed that year and I ended up having to start over...

Oh, and there were honeybees on the poinsettia plants... and monarch butterflies were on blooms...

there must be a gap between the inside and outside window allowing air inflation.

I know about storm windows, but being from Calif, I haven't seen one. Would changing out single panes for double panes be easier in the long run? Retaining heat inside during the winter and some heat protection in the summer? Or is it too expensive unless the house is receiving a major rehab?

Sanderson, it's a major expense to change out windows to double pane.  About $600 per window x 12 at my little cottage. Adding storms is supposed to act as a 2nd barrier in my case. They work fine, but I remembered after my last post that there are 2 little sill holes in every storm for drainage that would allow moisture in. Especially where we're having so much blowing snow/rain mix here on the Cape. Right now the holes are frozen solid. idk But there's also more snow out there than I've ever seen in my life.

that should read infiltration of the air.

CC, I wrote a reply but I failed to send it. "$600! Shocked That's high for even California, where everything is expensive.

Hey, is everyone battening down for the next one?  Its starting to snow here already but this is the one that should only give us about 2 inches.  This weekend will be the blow at 1 to 2 feet of it.
Indoors, I'm watching and watering my arugula and lettuces but so far only the first leaves, not true leaves yet.  I'm thinking its the seed starting mix.  I have it on top of a potting mix but its the cheap stuff I bought at Walmart last year that was left over.  I'm thinking that mix has some voodoo properties.  My plants are not progressing.  I might have to go hunt for some good stuff at Home Dept or Lowe's next week and start over again.
On a better note, my African Violet is blossoming nicely once again since it finished in December.  Such pretty pink flowers.

edited to add:  Take a look at my weathervane below.  Tonite should drop to 17 below zero.  Imagine the wind factor.

I predict 2" tops.

Because personally, I can't handle anymore than that.

Hey guys, I beat the blocked door problem.  As its snowing, I go to the door and just open it as far as I can pushing it over the smaller amts of snow as they happen.  Do this every couple of hours.  When its over, I can still open my door, maybe not as far, but enuf to get out and shovel behind it to open it fully once again.
The candles, flashlights and batteries are at the ready and sandwich meats and canned chicken and tuna and bread.  Canned fruits and veggies are a given since I have about 10 or 11 banana boxes full of canned and boxed goods in case of shortages or emergencies along with a couple manual can and bottle openers.  Buckets of water sit in the tub for flushing if the power goes out.  Bottles of drinking water in the furnace room await their need, also if the power goes out since our well pump will be useless.  Blankets, gloves, quilts ready.  Birdseed is bought and ready for the birds and a shovel sits beside my back door.  A big bag of dog food for the dogs.   I think I'm ready for it.  But still, I'm dreading more snow.
Good luck everyone.

Well, then Jim needs to hi-tail it up to White River a-sap! Mad   They're used to all this snow.

That's a great idea!  I could do that with my back door.... once I get it cleared. Rolling Eyes  But the front door is just too windy during a storm so won't budge much and might swing wildly if caught up. Sometimes I drive my car up and down the driveway every hour or so, but I'll be sleeping during this Sat/Sun one, not driving.  sawing logs

Heck, maybe it'll miss us completely...
