Oh no, I better keep cleaning the back yard! I've been working on it since Grandchild was born.
Re: Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuce
Audrey, I have some organic Swiss Chard Flamingo seeds, I believe that is an heirloom variety? I would love to try the Marvel of Four Seasons lettuce this fall! I will PM you.

I would still love to have some of these. I'll go through the rest of my seeds and post every I think might still be viable.
Re: Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuce
UPDATE: Summer growing in extreme conditions.
1. After a couple of years now of growing this lettuce I have found that it's good fairly consistently up to around 90* Winters in my area only get down to low 20s so I grow it unprotected and it does great all winter.
2. I don't know about humidity - any of you that have grown it in the south I'd love to see a report from you.
3. It grows nicely even in full shade during our summers. It will bolt when temps get over 95, but sometimes lower and sometimes higher.
4. I'm going to grow some indoors this summer and see how it does. I'm tired of not getting big salads in the summer and having to buy lettuce at the store, lol!

Your temps are ridiculous! Aud, honestly I can see why you are frustrated!
And the sometimes this and sometimes that, I get it.

I really don't know, but I'm game for anything except okra, lol!bwaynef wrote:What kind of heirloom seeds are you looking for?
There is a variety of cherry tomato everyone has said is soooo sweet, I can't remember it's name though... other than that I have plenty of tomato.
Unusual squashes would be great, we have a very long growing season so there's still time.
Anything out of the ordinary we're game for.
Re: Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuce
LOL! I agree about okra.audrey.jeanne.roberts wrote:I really don't know, but I'm game for anything except okra, lol!bwaynef wrote:What kind of heirloom seeds are you looking for?

I got Heirloom ✽ SUPER SNOW WHITE ✽ Cherry Tomato ✽ 15 Seeds ✽ Organic from Listia. Would you like some of them? Here's the discription:
Sweet ivory-yellow tomatoes are larger than snow white cherry tomatoes, but similar in taste. They are beautiful sliced in salads or on a platter with other heirloom tomatoes. We even added some to the canning jars for winter storage. The picture shows the difference in size between Super Snow White and Snow White.
Days: 75
Size: indeterminate
Season: mid-season
Color: yellow
Type: OP Heirloom
Uses: salads, snacking
This Auction: You will be receiving 15 seeds from my garden.
The seller seems very knowledgeable and experienced, but I haven't tried these, yet.
Re: Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuce
Sanderson, yes one of the varieties was the Sungold and there was another that was a red.
CountryNaturals - that would be just fine, sounds very interesting to try!

Hi Audrey,
I'd love to try this. While looking for heirloom seeds to swap, I came across an envelope of "Four Seasons" heirloom lettuce from Burpee. Do you know if it's the same thing? I don't see "Marvel" anywhere on the envelope I have, but the picture shows a pretty, mottled, red and green lettuce.

Good question! I have both and have often wondered that myself. I've only grown Marvel so I wouldn't have the answer until I can sow them for fall. Will be following to see it someone knows the difference if any.

Not the same. Marvel is called lactuca sativa (55 days) and Four Seasons is called lechuga (45 days).

Excellent detective work CC! Thanks for answering the question for me.
Audrey, if you still have "Marvel" seeds available, I have a limited variety of heirlooms to swap (all partial packets): Black Krim tomato, Cherokee Purple tomato, Yellow Pear tomato, and of course, the Four Seasons lechuga lettuce. I'm just getting started on my heirloom collection. Let me know if any are of interest to you.

Ginger;
I would love to try the Black Krim Tomatoes. Purple Cherokee did dismally here they were constantly rotting on the stem but it wasn't blossom end rot.
Send my your address via Private Message and I'll get them out.
For anyone else interested, I have 9 packets made up and more seed in the bowl so don't be shy. Even if you have nothing to trade

+1 - I will be sending out your Top Pick Pinkeye Purple Hull Pea seeds on Monday. Thank you. I am growing twice as many cowpeas as I have in the past. I think I am going to invest in a cheapo pea sheller - Mr. Pea Sheller.sanderson wrote:I also received the Marvel seeds today. Thank you!
