Review of Terms of Service
Periodically, it is good to review the Terms of Service (TOS) to remind ourselves of the purpose of the Forum and the guidelines established to keep it a family-friendly and fun Forum. Very rarely, someone, usually a new member, will need to be reminded of these Terms. But, when an experienced member knowingly and blatantly abuses these privileges, the privileges will be revoked.
A member recently lost their Private Message (PM) privileges due to misuse by soliciting (forbidden in the TOS) another site through numerous PMs. Rest assured, it's perfectly acceptable to mention other sites as part of sharing gardening knowledge or help with a specific topic. But, a mass solicitation through PMs is not acceptable.
PMs are very useful for side-bar conversations and sharing information that the rest of the members do not need to know or see. They are completely private. No one can see PMs except the parties involved. However, an inappropriate PM can be reported to the Administrator or Moderators for appropriate action, be it a friendly reminder, warning or revocation.

(Above is the stock, boilerplate TOS that comes with the forum software. It's the stuff that nobody ever reads. Below was written by forum administrators specifically for the SFG forum.)
1. This is a family friendly forum. Always has been, always will be. Please post accordingly.
2. The founder of the forum worked hard to create an atmosphere that is friendly, fun, supportive, positive, and best for the commons. It is the administrator's responsibility to maintain that atmosphere in a manner consistent with current board management practices, including revocation of posting privileges. Please do your best to support that philosophy.
3. We have an off-topic forum for conversations that aren't SFG specific. However, as with most forums, we ask that the topics of politics, religion, and others that invariably lead to heated arguments, not be discussed.
4. No soliciting.
5. We encourage and value your participation, and ask that you respect our guidelines.

Re: Review of Terms of Service
Thanks Sanderson,
The TOS is important to sort of keep the peace between forum members. But, some folks do not know what 'family friendly' means!
The TOS has been brought up several times since I became a member. The following line always gets me and I've asked about it before. So, my question is: How are we to know what the French laws are? Jo Ann
"and more generally any message contravening the French laws are prohibited."

Periodically, it is good to review the Terms of Service (TOS) (above). Also, non-members can preview the TOS and understand how important members are to each other and how the TOS helps us keep our friendships. You are a great group of folks.

Re: Review of Terms of Service
Happy New Year of 2017 to everyone! To start off the year, I want to remind everyone of the pesky little Terms of Service.
A while ago, a member lost their Private Message (PM) privileges due to misuse by soliciting (forbidden in the TOS) another site through numerous PMs.
We also were hit with a barrage of phony business members, which is taking time to delete from our real membership. Malicious activity like this needs to be reported so the Admin staff can take corrective action. Thank you for reporting this matter.
