Thank you soooo very much to Judy McConnell for mailing me some seeds! We planted them, and they all came up nicely! Planted them out in the garden today near the arch! HOPING to have it covered this summer. I've told my grandson we're going to sit under there in the shade this summer and have a hamburger and french fries and a milk shake!!

Holy cow, those are so awesome looking!

What accounts for the color changing like that? They just turn darker green as they grow?

I don't know why they're different colors? I was wondering the same thing. Seeds came from the same packet, planted at the same time. They sure are cool though! They're weaving through the trellis wire, so we're getting some crazy shapes! There are a couple of babies that look like they're going to be OK to finish out at the very TOP of the arch! Gotta keep those miserable moles out of the bed, they mess up the soil, and then the plant aborts flowers. I will post pics again Smile

We just planted these for fun to cover our arch for the grand babies Smile The goal is to have a picnic in the shade this summer...we're ALMOST there! BUT, there has to be a loooong squash so my 5 yo grandson can bonk his head   lol!! Every time he comes over, he checks!!

I discovered on Google that the green fruit is used just like zucchini and if the fruits are allowed to ripen to yellow - they will be used like winter squash.

So these neat plants serve double duty Very Happy  Very Happy

Bought a pack of seeds from Territorial Seeds Co, after hearing someone here mentioning the squash last year. Checking the pack - it says the fruit might be light green to tan.

Unfortunately I didn't get my seeds in, so am enjoying them vicariously through you. Very Happy  Very Happy

interesting! Ours are light green, dark green, tan, beige...all colors! it's funny, they seem to take on a color when young, and that's how they end up.
We had a girl scout troop over today to tour the garden, and they LOVED the squash and trellis! These girls are amazing too! I think they wanted to go home and start composting and gardening !! wahoo!!

Did you try different browsers, southerngardener? I went from Firefox to IE and finally to Chrome before I found a browser that reliably uploaded pictures for me.

Really, of course, by far the easiest way is to just use photobucket or a similar hosting service anyway. Then copying pics is a breeze and you have them all in a central location, organized by however many folders and subcategories you might like, ready to posted anywhere or linked to in an e-mail, etc. Even if you think the photo management software here on this forum stinks on ice, there have always been easier and better alternatives to getting a picture up here or anywhere.

They seem to taste the same at any size! They are a SUPER cool thing to grow for sure! We have WAY more than we can eat and give away, but they are head turners when people come over! I'm gonna try another pic!!
