Tomato Problems
Two weeks ago I found a large green worm on my tomato plant.
It had white spikes on the back of it. Upon searching it online it may be a tomato hornworm? It stated that the white spikes on the back of the worm were wasp eggs which will cause the worm to die shortly.
Also, in the photos below are pictures of my tomatoes that are cracking and then eventually start to rot. I did notice alot of my tomato leaves were turning yellow even the top leaves. I did find another 4 worms.
Any advice?
Tom I will try to post a photo of a worm if I find one. Ugh.....

Re: Tomato Problems
It's unlikely that the horn worms are the cause of the cracking of fruit and the yellowing of leaves.
What kind of tomatoes are these? Have you fed your plants or topdressed the beds with compost this season? Have you added any amendments? How often are you watering?

Wow that's gross! Hope you can get some better results.
That happens to me when I get too nervous during a dry spell and then over-water.

Re: Tomato Problems
Many of my recent tomatoes look like that...no rain for weeks the 8-10 inches over a few days in early august...don't know if that's the reason or not.

Re: Tomato Problems
I have the following tomato plants:
1) Burpee Big Boy Hybrid - 1st time trying this tomato plant. This is the plant with the most tomatoes that are cracking.
2) Rutgers Tomato - 2nd time trying this tomato plant. This plant also had some tomatoes that are cracking.
I also have a Sweet Baby Girl Hybrid cherry tomato plant. So far this tomato plant is fine.
We had a soaking spring with cool temperatures. June was also wet then came the extreme heat. I was careful in trimming the plants when needed and also added compost to each tomato plant before I went away in July.
Unfortunately, I was away for about 2 1/2 weeks which my neighbor was kind enough to water my garden. At that time was the extreme heat.
I have been watering when needed.
Do you think I should add compost to the plants at this time?
Thank you everyone!

Re: Tomato Problems
Yeah, but were you commando?
It was over 100* and it was almost, and I do mean almost for about 3 seconds, tempting to keep on trucking.

I'm sure glad that we don't split like that!
I vote that the splits came from over watering. It's not your fault, it's the heat and your neighbors, lol! You were gone so you are innocent!
