Tomato Problems...Help again!

My tomato plant leaves are curling up. They almost look wilted, but I know they're not, because I'm watering and we got a rain yesterday. One plant is curled up so much that you can't even see the top of the leaves. Not all of them are doing it. It seems that the Arkansas Travelers are the worst. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

are they curling from the tip toward the stem, or from the sides toward the center?

I didn't think I could overwater with a SFG. I've been watering when it feels dry an inch or so down in the dirt. Is that OK? I'll take a picture in the morning.

some of mine are curling as well...I've read where it shouldn't hurt production/ yields but the plants don' look full and healthy when the leaves curl. I can post some pics tomorrow as well.

I found this info on another site "Leaf roll, or leaf curl, is a physiologic distortion that may develop with periods of cool, rainy weather. It cause the lower leaves to roll upward and become thick and leathery. Leaf roll does not affect plant growth or fruit production and requires no treatment.

Here are the pics...one closeup and the others are part of the plant. They also seemed to have stopped growing. I looked closely at the leaves and there seem to be some gnats, but nothing that looks bad, although I don't know my bugs very well. The Arkansas Travelers seem to be the worse, but I think they all have it to a small degree.

What I have read says to not do anything, won't hurt fruit production.

Probably just need their water supply to stabilize and will open back up. Color on them is good.

Well, Mel says you can't over water Mel's mix.... However, you can over water your plants. Very Happy

Well...they are getting worse. They honestly look like they are wilting and the veins are turning purple. Our weather has been crazy...several days of 96 degrees, no rain, then in the low 70's for the highs. It sure is tough being a newbie and I appreciate everyone's patience with all my questions.

Camprn...thanks for the link! I thought that was my problem, but now i'm not sure.

Those symptoms sound like it may be curly top virus. Do a google search on it. The cutting and purple veins are some of the symptoms.

Doesn't that start at the top of the plant? This started at the bottom and went up. I could be totally wrong.

Could thrips cause this? I had to spray my peas and now the peppers, which are in the same bed as the tomatoes. I sprayed the tomatoes, too, just in case.

The leaf curl is a sure sign of distress, the plant may be trying to conserve it's water. The purlple veining could also be a sign of phosphorus deficiency. Now that doesn't necessarily mean there is low phosphorus amounts in the mix, it may also mean that the pH is off enough to inhibit uptake of the nutrient. Maybe time for a soil test. albino

What are your temp ranges and rainfall amounts?
